Home of the Mighty Rams!!! Grand Final Winners and Premiers 2015
The Geelong Rugby Union Club was founded in 1929 and is preparing to celebrate its 85th year. John McCabe-Doyle is credited with the founding of the Club.
In 1958 Geelong had success in winning the 3rd Grade Premiership, followed by 2nd Grade Premierships in 1962 and 1966, interspersed with several unsuccessful seasons in 1st Grade. During this period, Geelong produced several State players.
Since that time the Rams have appeared in different levels of competition, with varying degrees of success. The playing fields and club rooms, located at Flinders Peak, Hendy Street Corio, have seen both Junior and Senior teams over the past few years.
Emphasis on a successful junior program has provided strength through to the senior ranks as well as promoting junior rugby in the Geelong region.
Season 2015 saw the RAM's become Premiers and Grand Final Winners, having only lost one game and being undefeated at home. The RAM's also picked up awards for Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, Most Tries Scored and Most Points scored by an individual - a clean sweep!
The RAM's have also had representation at higher levels this season - 3 U12's were selected to travel to NSW as part of the Junior Rebels and a senior player is playing for the Rebels 7's side.
The 2016 season will see the Rams fielding teams in the U7’s, U8’s, U9’s, U10’s, U12’s, U16’s and two senior sides.
This sustained increase in junior participation is testament to the club’s philosophy of enjoying the game played in heaven. We are a grass-roots rugby club run by volunteers, everyone from the ball-boy to the president shares the same passion for the game.
Whether player, coach, parent, friend or supporter, the Geelong region has embraced a rugby culture. The Rams welcome the opportunity to educate young players and help shape the Victorian rugby community of tomorrow.
